ազոխ

Etymology

Uncertain. Compare Persian ازخ (azox, rotten and empty nut), which does not fit semantically. Perhaps the Iranian word had a broader meaning earlier, potentially reflected in Arabic سُحّ (suḥḥ, dates of a dry kind which dissolve well in the mouth), in which case ազոխ (azox) is an Iranian borrowing.[1]

Martirosyan connects with Abkhaz а-ӡахәа́ (a-dzaxʷá, grapevine).[2]
