From *qayda "where, at what place", from Proto-Turkic *ka- (“interrogative particle”). -da is a locative case formant.
Cognate with Old Turkic [script needed] (qajda, “where?”), Tatar кайда (qayda), Ottoman Turkish قنده (kanda), Kazakh қайда (qaida), Kyrgyz кайда (kayda), Crimean Tatar qayda, Shor қайда, Khakas хайда (xayda), Tuvan кайда (kayda), etc.
