From Proto-Turkic *tïd- (“to hinder, obstruct”).[1]
Cognate with Kazakh тыю (tyü, “to forbid, hold back”), Kyrgyz тыюу (tıyuu), Southern Altai тий- (tiy-, “to disturb, concern”), Karachay-Balkar тыяргъа (tıyarğa, “hold back, restrain”), Uzbek tiymoq (“to control, hold back”).
