Cognate with Kazakh тыю (tyü, to forbid, hold back), Kyrgyz тыюу (tıyuu), Southern Altai тий- (tiy-, to disturb, concern), Karachay-Balkar тыяргъа (tıyarğa, hold back, restrain), Uzbek tiymoq (to control, hold back).
