From Proto-Slavic *tręsavišče. Morphologically from треса́ (tresá) + -ище (-ište). Akin to Serbo-Croatian тре̏сава (“turf swamp”), Ukrainian тряса́вина (trjasávyna, “quag”), Russian тряси́на (trjasína, “quag”), Polish trzęsawisko. Compare Swedish träsk (“swamp”).
