сѣчь

Old Church Slavonic

Noun

сѣчь • (sěčĭ) f

  1. fight

Russian

Verb

сѣчь • (sěčʹ) impf (perfective вы́сѣчь)

  1. Pre-1918 spelling of сечь (sečʹ).

Usage notes

  • сѣчь (sěčʹ) is one of the few Russian terms in pre-1918 orthography in which a stressed ѣ () is pronounced like the letter ё (jo). It is therefore written with a diaeresis in a similar fashion: ѣ̈ (). Note that this only occurs in certain inflections.
