  1. to persuade
    • from Vita Constantini, 1202000-1202010:
      тако же гладъкꙑми словеси оуглаголавь ихь повелѣ имь посѣщи дрѣво и съжещи.
      tako že gladŭkymi slovesi uglagolavĭ ixĭ povelě imĭ posěšti drěvo i sŭžešti.
      And thus, having persuaded them with sweet words, he commanded them to cut down and burn the tree.
