Etymology
From *kökegün (“gadfly”), perhaps derived from Proto-Turkic *kȫk (“blue”).
Cognate with Karakhanid [script needed] (kökägün, “fly?”); Tatar кигәвен (kigäwen, “gadfly”), Kyrgyz көгөөн (kögöön, “gadfly”), Uyghur كۆكۈيۈن (köküyün, “gadfly”), etc.
