Etymology
From Proto-Turkic *kïŕïl (“red”). Thoroughly replaced the native Slavic word (дёрен (djóren) from *dernъ) early as also with Belarusian кізі́л (kizíl), while Ukrainian дере́н (derén) is still more common than кизи́л (kyzýl).
