закругля́ть (zakrugljátʹ) + -ся (-sja). Related to круг (krug, a circle). The colloquial sense (used at least since the late 1950-s) may be a calque from some other language: compare English round off and Swedish avrunda

  1. to begin to be round (e.g. on the end)
    Эта трость не должна закругляться на конце, а она закругляется!

    This walking stick is not supposed to be round on its end, but it does!
  2. to be made round (e.g. on the end), to be made rounded off
    Synonym: округляться (okrugljatʹsja)
