From Proto-Slavic *uxo, from Proto-Indo-European *h₂ous-. Compare Russian у́хо (úxo) and Belarusian ву́ха (vúxa). Cognate with Old Armenian ունկն (unkn), Gothic 𐌰𐌿𐍃𐍉 (ausō), Ancient Greek οὖς (oûs), Latin auris, Modern Persian گوش (guš).
