Cognate with Old Uyghur ağïr (heavy, difficult); Tatar авыр (awır), Kazakh ауыр (auyr); Kyrgyz оор (oor), Southern Altai уур (uur), Uzbek ogʻir, Turkish ağır, Yakut ыар (ıar, heavy; difficult).
