Learned borrowing from Katharevousa τοπωνύμι(ον) created in analogy to Koine Greek ἐπωνύμιον (epōnúmion, surname) + -ο (Standard Modern Greek neuter suffix).[1] Compound of τοπ- (τόπος) (top- (tópos), place) + -ωνύμιο (-onýmio, -onym).[2]
