Etymology

Inherited from Byzantine Greek παίρνω (paírnō), aphetic form of ἐπαίρνω (epaírnō), which comes from Ancient Greek ἐπαίρω (epaírō, to lift up, to rouse) with addition of a nasal infix. [1]
