Etymology
From Proto-Indo-European *men- (“to think”). Compare μαίνομαι (maínomai), μιμνήσκω (mimnḗskō), as well as Sanskrit मन्यते (mányate), Sanskrit म्ना (mnā), whence Sanskrit मनति (manati, “remember, repeat in the mind”), Old Church Slavonic мьнѣти (mĭněti) and Lithuanian miniu.
