From Proto-Indo-European *bʰéh₃g-os ~ *bʰéh₃g-es-, from *bʰeh₃g- (to bake), Cognate with Albanian bukë (bread), Ancient Greek φώγω (phṓgō, roast), Old English bacan (whence English bake).
