ŝarĝi
Esperanto
Etymology
From French charger, ultimately from Latin carricō (“I load; I charge (a weapon)”). Compare Italian caricare, Spanish cargar, Portuguese carregar, Romanian căra, as well as English charge.
Pronunciation
- IPA(key): [ˈʃard͡ʒi]
- Rhymes: -ard͡ʒi
- Hyphenation: ŝar‧ĝi
Usage notes
- Ŝarĝi and ŝargi can both translate "to load," but in different senses. Ŝarĝi means to load in the sense of to impose a burden; for example, to load a vehicle with cargo for transport. Ŝargi means to put into an apparatus what it needs to function, e.g. to place a bullet into a gun, to charge a battery with electricity.
- The direct object of ŝarĝi is the recipient of the burden: ŝarĝi veturilon per pakaĵoj.
