From Proto-Norse *þrōwendīʀ m pl, from *þrōwōną + *-ndz. Compare Old English Þrōwendas pl. A similar construction is found in bóndi (“farmer”) from búa (“to reside”), and frændi (“friend”) from frjá (“to love”).
