From Ottoman Turkish چكنمك (çekinmek, to draw back and recoil, through fear, scruple or dislike),[1] from Ottoman Turkish چكمك (çekmek, to pull, to draw, to attract), from Proto-Turkic *ček- (to pull, to drive towards oneself),[2][3] morphologically çek- + -in + -gen.
