Zefreh (Persian: زفره; also known as Zifreh)[3] is a village in, and the capital of, Zefreh Rural District of Sistan District, Kuhpayeh County, Isfahan province, Iran.
At the 2006 National Census, its population was 1,689 in 581 households, when it was in the former Kuhpayeh District of Isfahan County.[4] The following census in 2011 counted 1,555 people in 598 households.[5] The latest census in 2016 showed a population of 1,750 people in 639 households. It was the largest village in its rural district.[2]
In 2021, the district was separated from the county in the establishment of Kuhpayeh County, which was divided into two districts of two rural districts each, with the city of Kuhpayeh as its capital.[6]
Zefreh has a congregational mosque from the Saljuq era with subsequent renovations. Zefreh has four chains of subterranean channels (qanat). Most of the population is engaged in farming, herding, and gardening and horticulture. Agricultural products are wheat, almonds, mulberries, and especially corn. Weaving carpets, carrying the Nain design, was particular to women, who were also engaged in other cottage industries. A distinguished local industry used to be making cotton shoes.[7]
