Tyla (stylized in all caps) is the upcoming debut studio album by South African singer Tyla,[1] currently scheduled for release on 1 March 2024 by Fax and Epic Records.[2] The album was preceded by the release of the lead single "Water", as well as the promotional singles "Truth or Dare",[3] "Butterflies", and "On and On".[4][5] It will feature a guest appearance from labelmate Travis Scott and will be promoted through Tyla's debut concert tour which is scheduled to commence in March 2024 in Oslo, Norway.[6]
Background
When speaking on the album's sound, Tyla described it as an "experimental album", appearing to be inclusive of African popular music, genre styles such as amapiano as well as possibly fusing blends of Western pop, hip hop and R&B.[6] She told Capital Xtra in October 2023 that she had been recording the album for over two years and that it would be primarily be "popiano", a blend of amapiano and pop genres.[7] Part of the project was recorded in Portland, Jamaica.[8]
Release
On 28 July 2023, Tyla released "Water", the album's lead single.[9] The song was nominated for Best African Music Performance at the 66th Annual Grammy Awards.[6] A remix to the song featuring American rapper Travis Scott was released on 17 November 2023.[10] On 30 November 2023, she announced the album's cover art, alongside an EP containing 3 additional songs from the album, "Truth or Dare", "Butterflies", and "On and On".[11] On 2 December 2023, she released a ColorsxStudios version of "On and On".[12] On 5 December 2023, she announced The Tyla Tour in support of the album, set to begin on 21 March 2024 in Oslo and conclude on 28 May 2024 in Minneapolis.[13][14]
