The Shinzan Kinen (Japanese: シンザン記念), short for the Nikkan Sports Sho Shinzan Kinen(Japanese: 日刊スポーツ賞 シンザン記念),[2] is a Grade III race for three-year-olds in the JRA.[3]

Race details

The race was named to honor Shinzan, the Japanese racehorse who won the Japanese Triple Crown in 1961 and also won the Tenno Sho (Autumn) and the Arima Kinen.[3]

The first edition of the race was held on January 15, 1967 in which Taigyo won. Since then, the race is traditionally held at Kyoto Racecourse in January.

Foreign horses are allowed to enter the race.[1]
