Maryam Bukar Hassan (born 25 December 1996), also known as Alhanislam,listenⓘ is a Nigerian poet, a spoken word artist, a storytelling consultant, a social entrepreneur, a digital content creator, and, a Pan Africanist.[1]

Maryam is an advocate for United Nations peacekeeping, campaign co-ordinator at change.org in Nigeria, and she is a gates foundation goalkeeper. She uses her voice for social change and justice, especially on issues such as peace and maternal mortality.[2][3][4]

Early life and education

Maryam is an indigene of Biu, Borno State, Nigeria. She is the only daughter of Hauwa Maina, a prominent Nigerian actress.[5][6] Maryam completed her secondary education at Uncle Bado Memorial College Kaduna and later studied Information Technology at Radford University College Ghana, which is an affiliate of Kwame Nkrumah University.[7][8]

Career and achievements

Maryam has performed at various events and platforms, such as Aké Arts and Book Festival, Kaduna Book and Arts Festival,[9] Harmony for Humanity concert organized by the United States embassy in honor of Daniel Pearl, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) conferences,[10][11] African Governance Architecture conference, 75th anniversary of United Nations Peacekeeping Operations,[12] African Union 8th high-level dialogue conference 2019 in Kampala, Uganda,[13] Global Citizen Live,[14] and many more.[15][16]

Maryam is the founder of the True My Voice community, a group of young poets she coach to enhance their digital advocacy capabilities.[17][18]

She has released two spoken word albums: In The Heart of Silence (2017)[23][24] and Layers (2021), which address various social issues.[25]
