Maor Cohen (Hebrew: מאור כהן; born 1 May 1974) is an Israeli singer-songwriter, composer, musician, actor and comedian.[1]
Career
In the early 1990s Maor led the influential rock band Zikney Tzfat,[2] and since the band's breakup he has been the lead singer in several musical groups, most of them together with his former bandmates.[3][4] In addition, he starred in the TV series "Mesudarim"[5] and in the shows "Eretz Nehederet",[6] "My Nephew from Hell"[7] and "HaParliament",[8] for which he was also writing, and won the Israeli Academy of Television Award for screenwriting.[9] Since 2011 he is also known as the spokesperson for Domino's Pizza in Israel.[10]
At the beginning of his musical career, he was dubbed by the media as "the rock wunderkind of Israeli rock"[11] due to the charismatic live performances of Zikney Tzfat as part of the Tel Aviv alternative rock scene back then.[11] Some of the projects featuring Cohen include humorous or "nonsensical" motifs in the spirit of Zikney Tzfat's performances, such as a song with only one word ("Ricky" by Zikney Tzfat),[12] songs sung in a childish (Duo Reot)[13]
As a solo artist Cohen has released four acclaimed solo albums, a mini album and a double compilation album, and he performs frequently alongside Peter Roth in parallel to his solo performances. His hits as a solo artist include "The Most Beautiful In the World", a cover version of Ilanit's song "Weekday Song", "You'll See Again", "What Is Known About This Day" and "City Night".[14]
Personal life
Cohen is married to Liron and father of two sons. He resides in Ramat Gan.[1]
His brother is music producer DJ Mesh.[15]
