Göktepe (former Fariske) is a town (belde) in the Sarıveliler District, Karaman Province, Turkey.[2] Its population is 2,051 (2022).[1]
Geography
Göktepe is a mountain town in the Toros Mountains with an altitude of about 1,300 metres (4,300 ft). Göktepe is quite detached from the main highways. The distance to Karaman is 170 kilometres (110 mi).
History
There are ruins, caves, and tombs which show that the vicinity of the town was inhabited during the time of the Roman Empire. During the Ottoman Empire, the town was mentioned in the 17th century Seyahatname (travel book) of Evliya Çelebi. In 1956, Göktepe was declared a township.
Economy
Göktepe is a typical agricultural town. Main crops are apples, grapes, cherries and walnuts.[3]
