Fox's U-Bet in plastic squeeze bottle.

Fox's U-bet chocolate syrup is a commercial chocolate syrup originally made by H. Fox & Company in Brooklyn, New York starting around 1900.[1][2] It was said to be invented in a basement in Brownsville, Brooklyn, according to David Fox. Herman Fox, his grandfather, left town for the Texas oil boom and returned only with the phrase, "you bet."[3] The product is most associated with the egg cream fountain beverage.[4] The egg cream, a mix of U-Bet syrup and seltzer, became a staple in Ashkenazi Jewish cuisine.[5] H. Fox & Company was acquired by US Westminster Foods in 2016.[6]

Fox's is often cited in recipes for egg creams in the New York area.[7] Both U-Bet and Bosco, another brand with NY/NJ roots, use real cocoa.
