Donald Jon Brown (born 3 January 1981) is an Australian politician. He has been the Labor member for Capalaba in the Queensland Legislative Assembly since 2015.[1][2]
Early life
Prior to entering politics, Brown has studied applied science and law at Queensland University of Technology, and had worked as a pathology scientist, and as a union official for United Voice.[3]
Political career
He has served as the Chief Government Whip in the Queensland Legislative Assembly since December 2017.
In September 2020, a defamation lawsuit was filed against Brown in the Supreme Court of Queensland by former LNP candidate for Capalaba Bev Walters, who ran against Brown during the 2020 Queensland state election.[4]
Walters was seeking $250,000 in general damages and $50,000 in aggravated damages after Brown claimed on social media and in a letter sent to local residents that Walters had wanted the Queensland borders to remain open during the COVID-19 pandemic because she owned a travel agency.[4]
On 9 November 2023, a consent order was agreed upon and future trial proceedings dismissed after Justice Susan Brown accepted the order when Brown agreed to pay $50,000 in damages for defamation, along with Walters' legal fees and also publish an apology of his Facebook page.[4]
