Angola–Peru relations (Portuguese: Relações Angola-Peru, Spanish: Relaciones Angola-Perú) are the bilateral relations between Angola and Peru. Both countries are members of the United Nations and Gas Exporting Countries Forum, where Peru acts as an observer member of the latter.[1]

History

Relations date back to the Viceroyalty of Peru, as many of the slaves brought to the Americas were taken from Southern Africa. One such slave from Angola, simply known as "Benito", became famous after painting what would become the Lord of Miracles, a painting that survived an earthquake and became a religious icon in Peru, celebrated to this day.[2]

Bilateral relations between Peru and the Republic of Angola were formally established on September 6, 1985.[3][4] In 1988, an Angolan delegation visited Peru, signing an act of mutual understanding with both parties to promote cooperation between the two countries. They also signed a draft program for technical cooperation.[5]

Between 2018 and 2019, Angola, Peru and Honduras jointly developed a program to encourage the consumption of fish in public school lunches, under the auspices of the Food and Agriculture Organization.[6][7]
