Alakh Pandey (born October 2, 1991) is an Indian YouTuber, entrepreneur, and teacher. He is the co-founder and CEO of Physics Wallah, an Indian educational technology company based in Noida, Uttar Pradesh. In 2022, a documentary web series titled Physics Wallah was released on Amazon miniTv, based on the life journey of Alakh Pandey.[1][2][3][4]

Early life

Alakh was born in October 1991 in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh. He is the son of Satish Pandey, a private contractor, and Rajat Pandey, a teacher. He completed his schooling at Bishop Johnson School and College in Prayagraj. Subsequently, in 2011, he enrolled in Mechanical Engineering at Harcourt Butler Technical University, Kanpur. However, he dropped out of his university education during his third year.[5] In 2023, he entered into matrimony with Shivani Dubey.[6]

Career

He started his career by providing tuition at an educational institute in Allahabad, charging five thousand per month.[7] In 2016, he started his YouTube journey under the name Physics Wallah, focusing on comprehensive educational content. This included lectures on physics and chemistry tailored for students in classes 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th. Additionally, the channel provided guidance for pan-Indian exams like JEE, NEET, and board exams for CBSE and ICSE.[8]

He sparked public discussion by declining a salary offer of Rs 75 crore per year from the ed-tech company Unacademy.[8] Later in 2020, Alakh Pandey and Prateek Maheshwari formally incorporated Alakh's YouTube channel PhysicsWallah as a bootstrapped ed-tech company named PhysicsWallah Pvt Ltd.[9]

On May 26, 2020, he launched the Physics Wallah app. As per Times Now reports, as of January 2023, the Physics Wallah app has been downloaded over 50 lakh times on the Android Play Store and has amassed 9.73 million subscribers to his YouTube channel.[10]

Currently, he is serving as a CEO at Physics Wallah.[11]

On December 15, 2022, a 6-episode web series titled "Physics Wallah," focusing on the life of Alakh Pandey and his company, was released on Amazon Mini TV. Alakh Pandey, the central character in the series, was portrayed by Shreedhar Dubey. The series was conceived, directed, and produced by Abhishek Dhandharia under his production house.[12]

He made a guest appearance in the popular Indian sitcom "Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah" in Episode 3507.[13]
