AdventHealth Heart of Florida is a non-profit hospital in Davenport, Florida. It was formerly owned by health care provider Community Health Systems and is now owned by AdventHealth.
History
Since the 1960s, Heart of Florida Medical Center has been operating in Polk County, Florida. It has been at its present location since 1997.[1]
In late October 2003, the cities of Davenport, Florida and Haines City, Florida wanted to annex the land that Heart of Florida Regional Medical Center was on. In the end the city of Davenport annexed the land.[2][3] By 2004, it added a medical office building, cardiac catheterization lab, updated its services and its emergency department doubled in capacity. In 2005 and 2006, Heart of Florida Medical Center expanded its cardiac and opened Urgent Care Cypress.[1]In 2007, Heart of Florida Medical Center added a fouth and fifth floor, which are used for surgery, the Joint & Spine Center and patient rooms for women.[1]
From 2013 to 2019, it added interventional radiology and cardiac electrophysiology, a new MRI an urgent care center in Poinciana, Florida and an emergency room in Four Corners, Florida.[1] On January 27, 2014, Community Health Systems bought Heart of Florida Regional Medical Center from Health Management Associates.[4] On May 22, 2019, AdventHealth bought Heart of Florida Regional Medical Center from Community Health Systems for $90 million.[5][6][7] On September 1, 2019, AdventHealth officially took over the management of Heart of Florida Regional Medical Center.[8] It was renamed AdventHealth Heart of Florida and joined AdventHealth Central Florida Division.[9]
On November 2, 2022, AdventHealth Heart of Florida began a $7.5 million construction project to expand its emergency department and build a larger chapel. Also to renovate its outpatient and emergency registration areas. Construction was completed in November 2023.[10][11]
