Background and Identification
Founded in 1974, Vaude is a producer of sports equipment including backpacks. Its Packs'n Bags product range began in 1998 as a collection of functional bags and backpacks.
Vaude has several types of backpacks, each suited for a different purpose. Categorized by activities such as mountaineering and climbing, ski touring, trekking, and hiking, vaude backpacks are tailored to best function in each situation. For example, for those travelling in a high alpine terrain, a robust backpack would be desired. Similarly, those on a long trip would desire a backpack with adequate storage and those on a short trip would opt for a lighter version.
Since 2010, Vaude has been a member of the Fair Wear Foundation, an organization that seeks to improve working conditions in the textile industry. Also, Vaude applies the bluesign production standard, to ensure its manufacturing process is as environmentally friendly and safe as possible. Vaude produces its products by ethical and sustainable means by meeting the standards written by the Fair Wear Foundation and though using old material remnants in its new products.
Vaude recommends a few tips to users on adjusting their backpacks once they are fully loaded:
- Loosen the shoulder straps and the load positioning straps.
- Put on the pack and close the hipbelt. The hipbelt should sit snugly on the top of your pelvic girdle.
- Then stand up straight and slowly tighten the shoulder straps until they fit snugly on your shoulders without the pack pulling upward when you bend forward.
- If your pack has them, tighten the load positioning straps and close the sternum strap. The sternum strap determines the distance between the shoulder straps, and should be adjusted when you’re in a riding position.
