Background and Identification
The Fitbit Ionic is a smartwatch made by Fitbit and released in 2017. It uses GLONASS, a global satellite navigation system for built-in GPS as well as SmartTrack to record user activity on the Fitbit app. It’s predecessors were the Fitbit Blaze and Surge and in 2018, Fitbit released the Fitbit Versa along with an update to the Ionic with the Fitbit OS 2.0.
The Fitbit Ionic has a steel case and rubberized band. It has a rectangular full-color screen and though it’s similar to the Blaze’s screen, it’s bigger because the bezels are thinner. The Fitbit logo is placed just below the screen. It comes in Charcoal, Blue Gray and Slate Blue. The bands can be changed out, there are leather and plastic strap options.
Some of the features of the watch include battery life that lasts up to four or five days. It is also water resistant up to 50m. It has 2.5GB of space to upload music. There is also a heart rate monitor which is easy to access and gives instant readings on the main display.
The Fitbit Ionic was voluntarily recalled in the United States in March of 2022. "The battery in the Ionic smartwatch can overheat, posing a burn hazard," according to Fitbit.
