128K Mac was upgradable - there was a guy at our college who upgraded them to essentially a 512KE as we were told only engineers needed a 512K - what they didn''t realize is that if you wanted to write more than a 4 page paper in MacWrite, you also needed a 512K...

It''s amazing how much the price gap is on these old macintosh computers is. I have seen systems that turn on and ONLY come with the computer for more than $600, but i has also seen systems that turn on but just have a few more scuffs on them selling for less than $5.

I had the misfortune of blowing up one of the first Mac''s in the UK. Working for (what was then) one of the biggest dealers in the Country, I was told to get the new Mac out the cupboard and power it on. No-one mentioned the 240/110V converter.
Bang - puff of smoke $ dead Mac. Oops.

a ? disk icon on the screen of mac performa 550 probably means dead HD. replace HD. download os 7.5 from apple.com (free) onto floppies. will take 16 floppies for whole os. good luck...

I have a (vintage) Mac Performa 550 that needs a system 7 utilities disk to get it back up and running again. When I turn it on, the screen comes up with an icon of a blinking disk with a question mark in it. I don't have a system 7 back up disk and was wondering where I could get one?

If I can't get the old Mac.hine running again, I am planning to sell the entire works. I have lots and lots of programs , 2 printers, a Suma Graphics drawing tablet, Original manuals , an extra extended key board and more , more , more. Am just wondering if some one in the vintage Mac field could give me an estimate on how much it's all worth before I put it on the market. But, before I do that, I'd rather see if I could get it fixed. Thank you

I would like to receive details of the original mac case (cabinet). The sizes, the angles. A CAD project/drawing would be fantastic! I want this to try to build a clone. Thanks in advance. Kind regards

Another great computer! Compare the price of this mac to the latest power mac g5. Some people, sadly, have gutted their old mac and used it as a computer case with a window.

Yes, "Macintosh" is a kind of apple. The Mac computer was the dream of Jef Raskin, who wrote the manual for the Apple I, and he named it after his favourite type of apple.

Exact time the Mac was introduced? The stockholders meeting began at 10 am. By 9:45, all 2600 seats were filled, and there were still over 100 people trying to get in. The reason for that is that the "George Orwell" 1984 ad had been screened on Sunday, early in the 3rd quarter of the Super Bowl, and had left everyone stunned.

(Info from "West of Eden - The End of Innocence at Apple Computer", Frank Rose, 1989)

Does anyone know the origin og the name MAC(intosh). is it just the codename for the project. The Apple computer names (i.e. Apple and Lisa) had meanining.

Thanks in advance.
Rami.

does anyone know the exact" time " that the Macintosh was introduced on January 24th, 1984? If you look back on a calendar to Jan. 1984, that day is a Tuesday. If you think about it most major introductions have taken place on a Tuesday, but at what time.???

I found 2 of the original Macintosh computers. The First Mac's just say Macintosh on the back of them.
Apple computer only sold around 120,000 to 150,000 of the original Mac's between Jan 24 1984 and Sept 22 1984.After that period of time Apple changed the roms a little bit and renamed it the Macintosh 128k to differentiate it from the released Macintosh 512k,both released after Sept 22 1984.The serial numbers on both of mine are #2336 and #5132 indicating that they were sold after the first week of introduction.I believe that only around 1,500 are still around today in operational condition. The ones that I found needed repair and I had to replace their power transistors on the analog boards.I had to repair one of the sony 400k drives but both are working fine now.The extremely early released Macintosh computers have a date code of 1983 Apple computer on their logic board.Apple sold 6,000 Mac's in the week after introduction,72,000 Mac's by day 100 and reached the 100,000 sold mark after 6 months of time.I still haven't found the exact number sold so I just made an estimation.
