Bermagui, New South Wales, Australia, 1995
Photograph by Sam Abell
A lone cow peers through a burned-out tree on a grassy paddock in Bermagui. Known primarily as a fishing town, Bermagui was the host of author Zane Grey, who wrote An American Angler in Australia based on his experiences sport-fishing along the Sapphire Coast.

(Photograph shot on assignment for, but not published in, the National Geographic book Wild Shores of Australia, 1996)
