Some news of the week:
Last week I mentioned here that I changed the telnet port at
<<Prism because of "bot-abuse" of the standard telnet
port. The new port for telnet is working well.
Those troublesome bots are not the only thing in the news
these days of course... check out the link to the WinRar
Malware attacks in this issue.
BTW, I was glad to see that I was able to connect to Mark
Lewis, 1:3634/12, last night in North Carolina. Those floods
in NC looked so bad in news reports. I expect he'll have
some stories to share.
Still no word from Alan Ianson, 1:153/757. I hope he's ok and
just enjoying the weather in BC :)

'StrongPity' Malware Infects Users Through Legitimate WinRAR and
TrueCrypt Installers

Kaspersky Labs has revealed a new strain of malware -- named
'StrongPity' which targets users looking for two popular
applications - WinRaR and TrueCrypt. The malware contains
components that not only has the ability to give attackers
complete control on the victim's computer, but also steal disk
contents and download other software that the cybercriminals
need.
From a Neowin report:
To be able to gather victims, the attackers have built special
fake websites that supposedly host the two programs. One
instance that was discovered by the researchers is that the
criminals transposed two letters in a domain name, in order to
fool the potential victim into thinking that the program was a
legitimate WinRAR installer website.

A husband and wife who worked for the circus went to an adoption
agency.
Social workers there raised doubts about their suitability.
The couple produced photos of their 45-foot motor home, which
was clean, well maintained and equipped with a beautiful bedroom
for the child.
The social workers raised concerns about the education a child
would receive while in the couple's care.
"We've arranged for a full-time tutor who will teach the child
all the usual subjects along with French, Mandarin and computer
skills."
The social workers expressed concern about a child being raised
in a circus environment.
"Our nanny is a certified expert in pediatric care, welfare, and
diet. In addition, there are 17 other children who travel with
their circus parents."
The social workers were finally satisfied. They asked, "What age
child are you hoping to adopt?"
"It doesn't really matter, as long as the kid fits into the
cannon."

when there is a sparsity of articles for the 'zine. I'd
MUCH rather you sent in material... lacking that, I will
fill these issues with my meanderings and thoughts and
hopefully we will grow into something of consequence here
:)
