Some news of the week:
The RAILFAN echo is now being distributed in Fidonet by Allen
Prunty's newserver. You can contact Allen at 1:2320/100 for
other newsgroups he is pulling in if you are interested.
Thanks again, Allen, for taking this on for me :)
The first onslaught of news articles hit the RAILFAN echo from
misc.transport.rail.americas from Allen's news server and some
of us were a little eh.. inundated with the flow. Traffic is
moving now more along the lines of what you'd expect however.
Thank you also to those who have stuck with the echo and
posted train related information, questions, etc.
My system was hit especially hard this week (as were others,
I've heard) with telnet bots. It was so bad even Ubuntu
12.5's iptables was not helping on the telnet port. I knew it
was generally working because I could see the same jerks
hitting my web server and being dropped as iptables should
do.. Why the telnet port was being overwhelmed didn't make a
lot of sense. Eventually I changed the telnet port. I know
that will probably work for about a few days Lol.. In the
meantime, I'm checking out some other options.

Unlike most editors, I surely do not mind running my mouth
when there is a sparsity of articles for the 'zine. I'd
MUCH rather you sent in material... lacking that, I will
fill these issues with my meanderings and thoughts and
hopefully we will grow into something of consequence here
:)
Write an article!
If you WOULD like to submit an article, feel free to drop
your article off at:

If you are using routed Fidonet mail, don't send articles as routed
attaches. They will fail somewhere along the path before getting here.
Send them instead direct to filegate.net.
Give it a title, sign your name and network address if you have
one and send it along!
Don't worry about the format, I can take anything you send me
and mutilate it further as you can see above. Linux is nice
that way (g). Spell checking your own work will help though
(something I'm typically guilty of (g)).
