I have many friends and family where my Mother was born in the
Smoky Mountains of Tennessee. Mom got a phone call from one of
her sisters in the country who was all upset. They frequently
call my Mom in the city for advice since she is the most
educated one of the bunch.
It started like this...
Aunt Ruth, "Ann, I just saw on the news that Hillary just said
that half of Trumps followers are a basket of deplorables...
does that mean she thinks that people like me are deplorable?"
Mom gave it great thought and sighed, "she may think that sister
Ruth... but don't worry we are all natural born American
Citizens. She can't deplort us."

Drunken Ribs

I have always used the recipe below for my 'standard' barbecue
sauce for ribs. It is basically one from the Joy Of Cooking, my
'goto' cookbook. I often switch out ingredients just to try
them and this recipe for Country-Style ribs with beer added to
the barbecue sauce was no different. I wanted something with a
good barbecue sauce with plenty of sauce so I could try braising
the ribs. This recipe really worked well. :)
Ingredients:
3lbs. Country-style Pork Ribs
Barbecue sauce (below)
1 bottle Lager-style beer
Red pepper flakes
salt/pepper
Prepare the barbecue sauce below:
Barbecue Sauce
1 1/2 cups ketchup
1 cup sugar
3 teaspoons molasses
2 tablespoons mustard powder
1/4 cup worcestershire sauce
4 tablespoons chili powder
2 minced garlic cloves
1 teaspoon tabasco sauce (or to taste)
1 cup apple cider vinegar
1/4 cup soy sauce
1 teaspoon ground ginger
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
2 tablespoons lemon juice
Combine all the barbecue sauce ingredients in a sauce pan, bring it to a boil
and then simmer for 5 minutes.
Let the barbecue sauce cool slightly, then carefully add the
1 bottle of lager-style beer to the prepared barbecue sauce.
Put it together: Place the Country-style ribs on your work
surface and salt and pepper the ribs all over. Sprinkle red
pepper flakes sparingly over them. You can use a barbecue rub
instead for this if you like.
Preheat the oven to 350F
Preheat a grill, or stove-top grill on high.
Place the Ribs on the grill and cook for about 3 minutes on each
side.
Place the browned ribs in a braising pan (or the bottom of a
deep broiler pan). Pour the prepared barbecue sauce+beer over the
ribs.
Bake the ribs at 350F for 2 or 2 1/2 hours or until tender.

Where to Send Your Articles
Unlike most editors, I surely do not mind running my mouth
when there is a sparsity of articles for the 'zine. I'd
MUCH rather you sent in material... lacking that, I will
fill these issues with my meanderings and thoughts and
hopefully we will grow into something of consequence here
:)
Write an article!
If you WOULD like to submit an article, feel free to drop
your article off at:

telnet mailer: filegate.net
If you are using routed Fidonet mail, don't send articles as routed
attaches. They will fail somewhere along the path before getting here.
Send them instead direct to filegate.net.
Give it a title, sign your name and network address if you have
one and send it along!
Don't worry about the format, I can take anything you send me
and mutilate it further as you can see above. Linux is nice
that way (g). Spell checking your own work will help though
(something I'm typically guilty of (g)).
