Fido Tips

It used to be way back in old days that your NC or NEC provided
everything from your echomail, netmail, and your nodenumber to your
weekly nodelist/nodediff.
How we've changed over the years
Your NC still provides you with a nodenumber (sometimes one that
you choose), but where you get your fidonet traffic from can be
one of your own choice. You may decide to pick up from a
Fidonet Star system, or a HUB, it's up to you. It's still
important though to poll you NC now and again.
Why?
Well, first, it lets your NC know that your node is still viable
(live) in Fidonet. If you want to stay in the nodelist, this
could be important. Sure, there are times when other
arrangements are made (some connections are reported back to the
NC by the Uplink), but in general it's a good idea to stay
connected to you NC... Just a poll once a week to your NC could
save your node number.
Also, part of belonging to fidonet is the community we've
developed. Sometimes it's a good idea to contact members of
your local community in your local net echos, or in your
Regional echos. I often advise my downlinks to stay connected
to their local net to pick up their own network or regional echos.
Fidonet is run by volunteers, and if no one knows you're around,
well, you probably won't be asked to volunteer for any job

fill these issues with my meanderings and thoughts and
hopefully we will grow into something of consequence here

and mutilate it further as you can see above. Linux is nice
that way (g). Spell checking your own work will help though
(something I'm typically guilty of (g)).
