    Update.

This week you may have noticed a brief posting in the FILEGATE
echo regarding adding a new file echo area to WIN_FDN.

I've been receiving notices of shareware and freeware software
for WINDOWS systems over the last several years. These are
generally good authors who are members of the Association of
Shareware Professionals. This week one of the authors who often
contributes sent me notices regarding his software asking us to
    distribute his games.

The files are HUGE. Written for Windows, I suppose they can't
help but be large, but for an author to ask us to distribute a
file that is in the range of 1/2 gig to over a gigabyte in size
was a bit much. Still, I tried.

The night before last, I set up an area for these huge files,
and posted a notice stating we'd be carrying them, but not by
the IFDC FileGate HUBs. If one of the HUBs wanted to distribute
the files, they were asked to contact me.

As I set up this area and organized maybe 5 of these huge files on
my system, their toll was immediately seen.. Zip didn't like
adding the FileGate Archive comment .. and zip sure didn't like
"storing" the files as is generally done with binary files.

Now the problem that I ran into may have been related to storage
space and temporary work space so that zip could create the
containers (archives with no compression, i.e., zip -jm0
filename.zip). I have 471 Gig free on this system though.

When the discussion started in the FILEGATE echo, I realized
that these files would NOT be carried by us. Even just storing
them on my system was insane. Perhaps I'll create an area where
I'll hatch out the pad files the authors send me :) Then if
someone wants to download these mega-files, they can do so :)

    Addendum Today:

I've started modifying a new page in the
    http://www.filegate.net/win_fdn/winpad/ directory. If you go
this page now there are some of the huge files listed with a
link to the author's site to download, a screen shot of the game
    and a description.

    Cooking Echo Picnic Dates

    Attention ! ! !

The 2013 Cooking Echo Picnic Dates have been set!

Fidonet Cooking Echo Picnic dates: July 11-15 2013
    (Thursday - Monday).

    Location: 2682 Slaterville Road,
              Slaterville Springs, NY 14881

This is our "new" place in Slaterville Springs, just 10 minutes
    from Ithaca, NY.

The main cooking date for the picnic will be on Sunday, July
14th since some members of the Cooking echo can not make it
until that date. As usual, you are welcome to arrive on any
of those dates... and if you want to cook something, you can
cook it on any of those dates as well.

If you need a free place to stay, we have a couch and two cots
available.. plus floors with rugs (vbg).

Activities at the picnic will include:

Sitting around our large kitchen table and talking
    Eating
    Cooking
Eating at local restaurants in Ithaca, NY

Last year we visited the famed MooseWood Restaurant, and Maxie's
Supper Club and Oster Bar in Ithaca.

If you plan on attending, contact Janis Kracht, 1:261/38, or
post in the Fidonet COOKING echo. It's always helpful to know
in advance if you will need some particular piece of equipment
or food item so we can accomodate you!

    Hope to see you there!

    INFO:

Fidogazette is published by Janis Kracht, Editor, with the help
of Richard Webb (Old School ToolBox). If you have an idea for a
column or a series of articles, please contact me :)

    New!
    Mailing-List subscriptions via
    www.filegate.net // lists / ?p=subscribe
but of course you can always link into your uplink and use
Tick or a tick compatible program.

    Where to Send Your Articles

Unlike most editors, I surely do not mind running my mouth
when there is a sparsity of articles for the 'zine. I'd
MUCH rather you sent in material... lacking that, I will
fill these issues with my meanderings and thoughts and
hopefully we will grow into something of consequence here
    :)

    Write an article!

If you WOULD like to submit an article, feel free to drop
    your article off at:

Email attach to address: janis @ filegate.net

Fidonet attach: Janis Kracht at 1:261/38
     Modem: 607-200-4076
     Binkp: 1:261/100 filegate.net port 24555
     telnet mailer: filegate.net

If you are using routed Fidonet mail, don't send articles as routed
attaches. They will fail somewhere along the path before getting here.
Send them instead direct to filegate.net.

Give it a title, sign your name and network address if you have
    one and send it along!

Don't worry about the format, I can take anything you send me
and mutilate it further as you can see above. Linux is nice
that way (g). Spell checking your own work will help though
(something I'm typically guilty of (g)).

To send reviews or recipes to the Food section, email or
    netmail Janis as above.

Email address for submissions to Dr.Debug:
To send a question to Dr. Debug, email a question to:
          drdebug @ filegate.net
or post in the fidogazette echo! :)

To send a listing to the FidoGazette bbslist, email your
    listing to:
      bbslist @ filegate.net
or post it in the fidogazette echo!
