    Issue #: 16

Gen 11:1 And the whole earth was of one language, and of
        one speech.

Can you imagine if we were all fluent in one language, how much
closer we might be? We would be similar in just that one
    aspect.

Gen 11:2 And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the
east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and
        they dwelt there.

Gen 11:3 And they said one to another, Go to, let us make
brick, and burn them throughly. And they had brick for
stone, and slime had they for morter.

And this my friends is how brick and slime came to begin making
brick houses and other such brick buildings. It's amazing
buildings of these types still exists today, the same method.
Let say, if it's good, it's good!

Gen 11:4 And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a
tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a
name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole
        earth.

Should we have build a tower to heaven? Is that a good idea, do
people actually think you could build all the way to heaven and
    actually reach it?

Gen 11:5 And the LORD came down to see the city and the
tower, which the children of men builded.

Gen 11:6 And the LORD said, Behold, the people is one, and
they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and
now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have
        imagined to do.

Gen 11:7 Go to, let us go down, and there confound their
language, that they may not understand one another's speech.

Gen 11:8 So the LORD scattered them abroad from thence upon
the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the
        city.

Not a good idea to build a tower to heaven, now look, language
is scattered. We should leave well enough alone!

Gen 11:9 Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because
the LORD did there confound the language of all the earth:
and from thence did the LORD scatter them abroad upon the
        face of all the earth.

Here we have it, the city of Babel. I wonder if the word
"babble" comes from this word; it's often used in context when
someone is talking and not making any sense. At least we found
    it's root!

The generations of Shem, one of the son's of Noah as follows:

Gen 11:10 These are the generations of Shem: Shem was an
hundred years old, and begat Arphaxad two years after the
        flood:

So Shem was ninty-eight when the flood came, and now here he is
at a hundred years old and still able to have children. How
    awesome!

Gen 11:11 And Shem lived after he begat Arphaxad five
hundred years, and begat sons and daughters.

Gen 11:12 And Arphaxad lived five and thirty years, and
        begat Salah:

Five hundred years later, Arphaxad had a child named Salah.

Gen 11:13 And Arphaxad lived after he begat Salah four
hundred and three years, and begat sons and daughters.

Gen 11:14 And Salah lived thirty years, and begat Eber:

Salah lived thirty years and begat Eber, this sounds more like
modern times to me or Salah just started a little early.

Gen 11:15 And Salah lived after he begat Eber four hundred
and three years, and begat sons and daughters.

Gen 11:16 And Eber lived four and thirty years, and begat
        Peleg:

Gen 11:17 And Eber lived after he begat Peleg four hundred
and thirty years, and begat sons and daughters.

Gen 11:18 And Peleg lived thirty years, and begat Reu:

Gen 11:19 And Peleg lived after he begat Reu two hundred and
nine years, and begat sons and daughters.

Gen 11:20 And Reu lived two and thirty years, and begat
        Serug:

Gen 11:21 And Reu lived after he begat Serug two hundred and
seven years, and begat sons and daughters.

Gen 11:22 And Serug lived thirty years, and begat Nahor:

Gen 11:23 And Serug lived after he begat Nahor two hundred
years, and begat sons and daughters.

Gen 11:24 And Nahor lived nine and twenty years, and begat
        Terah:

Gen 11:25 And Nahor lived after he begat Terah an hundred
and nineteen years, and begat sons and daughters. Gen 11:26
And Terah lived seventy years, and begat Abram, Nahor, and
        Haran.

Gen 11:27 Now these are the generations of Terah: Terah
begat Abram, Nahor, and Haran; and Haran begat Lot.

Reading through the linage from Shem, Noah's son, we have
Arphax, Selah, Ebar, Peleg, Reu, Serug, Nahor and Terah. Soon
we will discuss the history of Abram, son of Terah. Nahor and
Haran were also sons of Terah. Lot was then born from Haran.

Gen 11:28 And Haran died before his father Terah in the
land of his nativity, in Ur of the Chaldees.

How tragic. Haran, the son of Terah dies before his father.
The kingdom of Chaldees is in Ur. If you'd like to fast forward
    a bit, we come to:

Neh 9:7 Thou art the LORD the God, who didst choose Abram,
and broughtest him forth out of Ur of the Chaldees, and
        gavest him the name of Abraham;

This land Ur, is owned by the Chaldees and they renamed Abram to
Abraham as we'll discuss in later on in future articles. Let's
move back to the sons of Terah. Abram was chosen. If you
remember, Noah was also chosen, what will Abram do in his life?

Gen 11:29 And Abram and Nahor took them wives: the name of
Abram's wife was Sarai; and the name of Nahor's wife,
Milcah, the daughter of Haran, the father of Milcah, and the
        father of Iscah.

Abram took his wife Sarai and Nahor took his wife Milcah. Haran
has done passed, as you see. Iscah was the daughter-in-law of
    Terah.

Gen 11:30 But Sarai was barren; she had no child.

How barren. This is the first announcement of a woman not able
to bear a child; she had no children, but we're going to see she
wants one and we'll go to great depths to have one.

Gen 11:31 And Terah took Abram his son, and Lot the son of
Haran his son's son, and Sarai his daughter in law, his son
Abram's wife; and they went forth with them from Ur of the
Chaldees, to go into the land of Canaan; and they came unto
        Haran, and dwelt there.

We move from Ur of the Chaldees to the land of Canaan and went
    in the land of Haran.

Gen 11:32 And the days of Terah were two hundred and five
years: and Terah died in Haran.

Terah was two hundred and five years and had passed. Well,
there it is folks, more linage of our earliest ancestors from
the beginning from Noah. We'll discuss Genesis Chapter 12 in
the next issue. I hope you have received a blessing from this
as you put your time into the word and appreciate my thoughts as
we read these chapters from the KJV of the Holy Bible together.

    Where to Send Your Articles

Unlike most editors, I surely do not mind running my mouth
when there is a sparsity of articles for the 'zine. I'd
MUCH rather you sent in material... lacking that, I will
fill these issues with my meanderings and thoughts and
hopefully we will grow into something of consequence here
    :)

    Write an article!

If you WOULD like to submit an article, feel free to drop
    your article off at:

Email attach to address: janis @ filegate.net

Fidonet attach: Janis Kracht at 1:261/38

If you are using routed Fidonet mail, don't send articles as routed
attaches. They will fail somewhere along the path before getting here.
Send them instead direct to filegate.net.

Give it a title, sign your name and network address if you have
    one and send it along!

To send reviews or recipes to the Food section, email or
    netmail Janis as above.
