    Issue #: 14

Let us resume our reading in Genesis Chapter 9, verse 1.

Gen 9:1 And God blessed Noah and his sons, and
said unto them, Be fruitful, and
             multiply, and replenish the earth.

Not the first time God has said be fruitful and multiply.
You'll notice this being repeated in another chapter
further down the road. All of mankind, mammals, birds and
the like were lost except those in the Ark. Now God has
commanded Noah and his family to flourish and multiply.

Gen 9:2 And the fear of you and the dread of you
shall be upon every beast of the earth,
and upon every fowl of the air, upon all
that moveth upon the earth, and upon all
the fishes of the sea; into your hand
             are they delivered.

Every beast, fowl of the air any anything that
creapeth on the Earth are now are owned by Noah,
    once again since Adam.

Gen 9:3 Every moving thing that liveth shall be
meat for you; even as the green herb
have I given you all things.

We see here that every beast that provides food is
acceptable in the eyes of the Lord and the herb, being
vegatables and fruit as well as grain and the like is
pleasing to God for mankind to eat at this point.

Gen 9:4 But flesh with the life thereof, which
is the blood thereof, shall ye not eat.

We are not to eat the flesh of these beasts as God has
commanded or the blood that is contained within. So be
sure to skin all the meat you eat and cook your food
thoroughly as in, well done. This is commanded of God.

Gen 9:5 And surely your blood of your lives will
I require; at the hand of every beast will I
require it, and at the hand of man; at the hand
of every man's brother will I require the life of
             man.

Gen 9:6 Whoso sheddeth man's blood, by man shall
his blood be shed: for in the image of
            God made he man.

We are the image of God, everyone of us as branches and
fruit of one big tree. We are as one.

    Gen 9:7  And you, be ye fruitful, and multiply;
bring forth abundantly in the earth, and
             multiply therein.

Gen 9:8 And God spake unto Noah, and to his sons
             with him, saying,
Gen 9:9 And I, behold, I establish my covenant
             with you, and with your seed after you;
Gen 9:10 And with every living creature that is
with you, of the fowl, of the cattle,
and of every beast of the earth with
you; from all that go out of the ark,
to every beast of the earth.
Gen 9:11 And I will establish my covenant with
you; neither shall all flesh be cut off
              any more by the waters of a flood;
neither shall there any more be a flood
              to destroy the earth.

This is the good news. God will not destroy mankind by a
flood. He has made this promise and he keeps his promise.
Does that mean he can or will destroy mankind again by any
    other means?

Gen 9:12 And God said, This is the token of the
covenant which I make between me and
you and every living creature that is
              with you, for perpetual generations:
Gen 9:13 I do set my bow in the cloud, and it
shall be for a token of a covenant
              between me and the earth.

Be reminded as it rains or afterwards when you see a
rainbow, this is God's promise as a reminded to us that he
will not flood the Earth again as he has done since Noah's
    Ark.

Gen 9:14 And it shall come to pass, when I bring
a cloud over the earth, that the bow
shall be seen in the cloud:

Gen 9:15 And I will remember my covenant, which
is between me and you and every living
creature of all flesh; and the waters
shall no more become a flood to destroy
              all flesh.
Gen 9:16 And the bow shall be in the cloud; and
I will look upon it, that I may
              remember the everlasting covenant
between God and every living creature
of all flesh that is upon the earth.
Gen 9:17 And God said unto Noah, This is the
token of the covenant, which I have
established between me and all flesh
              that is upon the earth.
Gen 9:18 And the sons of Noah, that went forth
of the ark, were Shem, and Ham, and
Japheth: and Ham is the father of
              Canaan.
Gen 9:19 These are the three sons of Noah: and
of them was the whole earth overspread.

There you have it. The rainbow, God's promise.

Gen 9:20 And Noah began to be an husbandman, and
he planted a vineyard: Gen 9:21 And he
drank of the wine, and was drunken; and
he was uncovered within his tent.
Gen 9:22 And Ham, the father of
Canaan, saw the nakedness of his father,
and told his two brethren without.

Gen 9:23 And Shem and Japheth took a garment,
and laid it upon both their shoulders,
and went backward, and covered the
nakedness of their father; and their
faces were backward, and they saw not
              their father's nakedness.

Gen 9:24 And Noah awoke from his wine, and knew
what his younger son had done unto him.

Gen 9:25 And he said, Cursed be Canaan; a
servant of servants shall he be unto his
              brethren.
Gen 9:26 And he said, Blessed be the LORD God of
Shem; and Canaan shall be his servant.

Ham, Noah's son had seen his father naked after Noah had
drank of wine and became drunk and had cursed Ham. Shem
and Japheth his other two sones had covered Noah and not
seen Noah's nakedness and they were blessed. Canaan, Ham's
son has been cursed and has become a servant.

Gen 9:27 God shall enlarge Japheth, and he shall
dwell in the tents of Shem; and Canaan
              shall be his servant.
Gen 9:28 And Noah lived after the flood three
              hundred and fifty years.
Gen 9:29 And all the days of Noah were nine
hundred and fifty years: and he died.

Wow! Noah lived nine hundred and fifty years. Can you
imagine that? If only we had that much time on this Earth
as Noah. We will see later in reading how and why our life
has been limited to just over a hundred years. Remember,
the wages of sin is death.

    Chicken Breast Saltimbocca

    by Janis Kracht, 1:261/38, janis@filegate.net

This is even better with veal, but sometimes all I have in
the house is boneless chicken breats. Either way, this is
always served over a bed of garlic flavored spinach.

    Preheat the oven to 350F

    Ingredients for the Chicken:
    2 tablespoons olive oil
    1 tablespoon butter
    4 chicken breast halves
    4 slices provolone cheese
    4 slices proscutto or ham
    fresh sage or dry
    1/2 cup flour

Place the chicken breasts between 2 sheets of plastic wrap
and pound each one, one at a time with the flat edge of a
dinner plate, or with a kitchen mallet. Pound the chicken
gently until it is about 1/2-1/4" thick.

Place each breast piece on a clean work surface and put on
    each:
        1 slice provolone cheese
        1 slice ham or prosciutto
a sprinkling of sage leaves or a pinch of ground sage

Fold the pounded chicken breasts in half trimming any
pieces of prociutto or cheese that are too big. Align the
edges of the chicken breast and pound the outer edges gently
    to seal.

Dredge each filled sealed chicken breast in flour, and
    shake off excess.

Heat 2 tablespoons olive oil and butter in a 10" frying pan
until the butter melts. Cook the floured breast packets in
the butter and oil for about 4 minutes on each side to
brown them. Reserve the pan.. the sauce is made with
    these drippings.

Sprinkle a touch of olive oil on an 8X8 square baking dish.
Remove the breast pieces to the baking dish or pan.

Place in the baking dish the preheated oven for 10 minutes
or until the internal temperature reads 160F on a instant
read thermometer. Remove the chicken to a dish and keep
    warm.

    Ingredients for the sauce:
    2/3 cup white wine
    6 tablespoons butter

Pour the wine into 8x8 pan to loosen flavorful bits, then
pour it into the frying pan used to brown the chicken.
Scrape up the tidbits that cling to the pan. Reduce the
wine to about half. Add the butter and simmer stirring now
and again to let the butter thicken the sauce.

    Ingredients For the Spinach:

1 bunch fresh spinach, or 10 ounces frozen chopped spinach
    3 cloves garlic
    1 tablespoon olive oil
    1 tablespoon butter
[Optional: water to rinse spinach if using fresh]

Heat the olive oil and butter in a clean frying pan. Mince
the garlic and add it cooking for about 2 minutes. If the
spinach if fresh, rinse it, shake it to remove excess water
and place in the olive oil and garlic. Cover immediately
and cook for 6 minutes. If using frozen spinach, do the
same but don't rinse before placing in pan. The ice
crystals provide just the amount of water needed. If the
spinach is frozen in a hard block, you may want to defrost
it first. I buy frozen cut spinach in bags that do not
form a big frozen block. :)

Serving: Place the cooked spinach on a large platter to
make a bed for the chicken breast packets. Place the
stuffed chicken on top of the spinach. Pour the sauce over
    all, and serve.

    INFO:

Fidogazette is published by Janis Kracht, Editor, with the
help of Richard Webb 1:116/901 (Old School ToolBox). If
you have an idea for a column or a series of articles,
    please contact me :)

    New!
    Mailing-List subscriptions via
    www.filegate.net // lists / ?p=subscribe
but of course you can always link into your uplink and use
Tick or a tick compatible program.

    Where to Send Your Articles

Unlike most editors, I surely do not mind running my mouth
when there is a sparsity of articles for the 'zine. I'd
MUCH rather you sent in material... lacking that, I will
fill these issues with my meanderings and thoughts and
hopefully we will grow into something of consequence here
    :)

    Write an article!

If you WOULD like to submit an article, feel free to drop
    your article off at:

Email attach to address: janis @ filegate.net

Fidonet attach: Janis Kracht at 1:261/38
     Modem: 607-655-5652
     Binkp: 1:261/100 filegate.net port 24555
     telnet mailer: filegate.net

If you are using routed Fidonet mail, don't send articles as routed
attaches. They will fail somewhere along the path before getting here.
Send them instead direct to filegate.net.

Give it a title, sign your name and network address if you have
    one and send it along!

Don't worry about the format, I can take anything you send me
and mutilate it further as you can see above. Linux is nice
that way (g). Spell checking your own work will help though
(something I'm typically guilty of (g)).

To send reviews or recipes to the Food section, email or
    netmail Janis as above.

Email address for submissions to Dr.Debug:
To send a question to Dr. Debug, email a question to:
          drdebug @ filegate.net
or post in the fidogazette echo! :)

To send a listing to the FidoGazette bbslist, email your
    listing to:
      bbslist @ filegate.net
or post it in the fidogazette echo!
