Borrowed from a South Slavic language, most likely Macedonian збор (zbor, word), where the transformation from "meeting, gathering" to "word" occurred in the same way as the Aromanian synonym cuvendã (word) from Latin conventum or Albanian kuvend; compare Proto-Slavic *sъborъ (meeting, gathering) (Serbo-Croatian zbȍr/збо̏р). Akin to zburãscu (speak). Not related to Romanian zbor (flight).
