Etymology
Borrowed from Mozarabic *činče, itself from Latin cīmicem (cf. Spanish chinche). The Catalan singular xinxa is a back-formation from the plural xinxes. Displaced Old Catalan címeu, which was directly inherited from Latin.[1]
