xinoyu

Asturian

Etymology

From Late Latin genuculum, alteration of Latin geniculum, diminutive of genū (knee), from Proto-Indo-European *ǵónu. See Catalan genoll, Portuguese joelho, Mirandese zinolho, Galician xeonllo and Occitan genolh.

Displaced by rodiya, borrowing from Spanish rodilla, it's found only in old dictionaries and texts (Junquera Huergo, Julio Somoza and Antonio García Oliveros) but not nowadays, as such it doesn't appear on the modern Diccionariu de la Llingua Asturiana.

Noun

xinoyu m (plural xinoyos)

  1. (dated) knee
