Alternation of wixlan, from Proto-West Germanic *wihslijan, *wihslōn, from Proto-Germanic *wihslijaną, *wihslōną (“to change”), from Proto-Indo-European *weyḱ- (“to change”). Cognate with Old Frisian wixlia, Old Saxon wehsalōn, Old High German wehsalōn (German wechseln). More at wrixle.
