Cognate with Tocharian B yasā (gold), from Proto-Tocharian *wi̯äsā (gold), of uncertain further origin. Compare Proto-Italic *auzom (gold), from Proto-Indo-European *h₂é-h₂us-o- (glow), from the root *h₂ews- (to dawn, become light, become red).
