From Old Danish wrang (“wrong”), from Old Norse rangr (“awry”), from earlier *wrangr, from Proto-Germanic *wrangaz (“crooked, twisted, turned awry”), from Proto-Indo-European *werk'- (“to twist, weave, tie together”), *werg'-, *wrengh-, from Proto-Indo-European *wer- (“to turn, bend”).
