vrëndë
Albanian
Etymology
A methatesized formation from an earlier *vëndër, from Proto-Albanian *ŭ(n)dərā, from Proto-Indo-European *wedʰrom. Compare Old Church Slavonic ведро (vedro, “fine weather”), Old Norse veðr (“wind, air, weather”), Old English weder. Alternatively from Proto-Albanian *awa-raunta, a derivative of rëndë (“heavy”).
