Etymology 2
Probably from Italian viola, but uncertain since the shift of l to r usually indicates a Latin source. The r may have come by analogy with vior (cf. înviora) < viu. Cf. also Old Occitan viola (Occitan viula), Spanish vihuela, French vielle.
Etymology 3
Inherited from Vulgar Latin root *vīvula, from Latin vīvus.
Adjective
vioară f (feminine only, plural vioare)
