Etymology
Sino-Vietnamese word from 尾琴, composed of 尾 (“tail”) and 琴 (“string instrument”), referring to the fact that the ribbon of the bow is traditional made from horsetail hair. In modern Vietnamese, vĩ is also the word for "bow".
