From Proto-Uralic *suwďa.[1][2] Cognates include Northern Mansi туля (tulâ).

As opposed to the usage in English, the thumb is counted as one of the fingers in Hungarian (hüvelykujj, normally with the term ujj; also without it, as hüvelyk, in archaic style), not only as one of the digits.
